About the Performer:
Jason Aryeh is an Assistant Professor of Dance, choreographer, and artist scholar. His research interests include the infusion of modern techniques with West African dance movements/forms to dance training, choreography and performance. Aryeh has worked with numerous artists in developing movements of infusion into choreography and performance artist to name a few, includes Darwin Prioleau, Clyde Morgan, Habib Idrisu, Chuck Davis, Khalid Saleem and Robin Gee. Aryeh has won many awards including the prestigious student award at the ongoing American Dance Festival (ADF) as a Faculty Assistant.
Prior to his appointment at Elon, he was the Artistic Director and the Head of the Dance Department for the resident Theatre Company at the Centre for National Culture in Sunyani, Ghana. He was a featured soloist, ensemble dancer and choreographer for the Performing Arts Workshop, (PAWS) a Dance Company affiliated with the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana and for Sankofa African Dance and Drum Ensemble, also affiliated with the Dance Department at the College at Brockport. He taught all levels of traditional and contemporary West African dance forms/styles, modern, choreography, contact improvisation, dance appreciation and dance history and cultures.
Addition to Aryeh scholarly and academic career, he is the artistic director and choreographer for African Alive Dance Company, a professional, project-oriented contemporary afro-infusion dance company. The company has premiered at numerous dance festivals in Ghana and West Africa and has been actively touring Ghana and West Africa since. Aryeh was invited as a guest choreographer and performer for the NC Dance Festival 2012 and with the NC Dance Festival tour.
“The Journey”, a performance master piece of afro-infusion, choreographed and directed by Jason Aryeh, has received enthusiastic reviews across the United States and in Ghana, being described as “most complicated and heart pounding performance” by The Mirror. “The liveliest dance and it seemed like the audience felt the glow of happiness and fun beaming off the stage” by The Stylus. Aryehs master piece “The Journey” has been performed in Colleges including the State University of New York, College at Brockport, Roger Williams University, Rhode Island and Elon University.
