About the event

Join Allied Arts as we celebrate the amazing artwork of Mr. Berry Smith! Berry is the First Place Winner of our 2023 Allied Arts Oconee Artist's Exhibit. The exhibit will run from March 1st through the 21st, 2024 and will be open from 9 AM - 4 PM Monday through Friday throughout.

Berry Smith was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He spent most of his boyhood on a rural Georgia farm. He, his identical twin brother and his younger brother exhibited phenomenal art ability as children. Talent seemed to be a genetic trait in his family line since his aunt was a gifted painter and musician. His teachers and parents were often amazed at the advanced aptitude he and his brothers displayed in realistic sketching and painting. Therefore, Berry ignored the norm and pursued his own art interests, resulting in the development of his unique style in wildlife, portraiture and landscapes.

Following high school, Berry worked in construction as he continued his education. After graduating as a mechanical draftsman, he was employed

for the City of Atlanta. Later he joined the airline industry and continued there for the next 20 years. Throughout this career he devoted his limited spare time to painting as a hobby. At that time he did mostly portraits in pastel and oils.

In the 1980's Berry ran his own successful contracting business. At the turn of the new century he left the contracting business, purchased some

rental property and built his own retirement home on Lake Sinclair. After leaving the everyday work schedule, his attention turned to his love of art. Soon, he decided to turn his talent and hobby into a new profession.

Berry most admired wildlife and beautiful landscapes. His style shows exact detail and attention to perception and depth. With the use of strong

pigment, balanced with transparency, his landscapes reflect a surreal glow.

Today, his paintings are exhibited in fine galleries and art shows around the south. Berry does commissioned pieces as well as traditional paintings created from his own rich imagination.

To be close to his children and grandchildren, he now lives in Senoia, Georgia.
