  Allen's Market

In the 1911 Allen's Market Building, which is one of four historic buildings that make up the Marlor Arts Center Complex in Milledgeville's Downtown Historic District. Allen's Market houses a roughed in artist-in-residence efficiency apartment and a second small classroom/kitchen space on the second floor and a 100 seat community space on the first floor used for performances and community meetings. Allied Arts involvement since 1980 in bringing in resident artists to work in the schools and community demands that we furnish adequate housing for artists not available in an already overloaded college housing market. Considering the first floor of Allen's Market is the a small public auditorium (and is fully accessible) in Milledgeville the development of Allen's Market became critical.

  The Marlor Cottage

The Marlor Cottage, c1820 – The original portion of the Marlor Cottage, situated next door to the John Marlor House, has been developed into accommodations while the rear of the cottage serves as Allied Arts' pottery studio. This is a good example of the low-country cottage style so prevalent in the Charleston- Beauford area of South Carolina.

The Griffin-Baugh Cottage

The Griffin-Baugh Cottage, c1810 – The cottage, at 251 North Wayne St., was a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Griffin, Sr. The Friends of Allied Arts had it moved to its present location after the action was approved by the National Register of Historic Places. Funding from former Mayor James E. Baugh and the Historic Preservation Section of the Department of Natural Resources helped stabilize the building. Renovation of this structure will begin in March 1999. The small, almost medieval style cottage is a prime example of early houses that once dominated the residential area between the Oconee River and the original Washington Street entrance to the State House grounds.
