2008 Summer Workshops for Adults

Drawing Workshop with Tim Oliphant April 1 & 3 (Tues & Thurs)

Time: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.     Cost: $20.

Tim Oliphant (AKA "Mr. Ollie") has been a professional cartoonist since 1983, producing caricatures, daily comic strips, self-syndicated editorial cartoons, and freelance humorous illustrations. His simple approach to teaching the fundamentals of drawing, based on just four basic shapes, perspective and line guarantees success for all.


Printmaking with Pam Daresta June 9 - 12

Time: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Cost: $70.

Adult Introductory Printmaking Class will introduce printmaking techniques that produce a variety of image qualities. We will work with intaglio drypoints, relief, traditional lino or contemporary Styrofoam, and mono-printing techniques all with nontoxic water based inks. The focus will be printmaking as a means of artistic expression rather than printmaking as a form of reproduction. Beginners are welcome. Please bring some of your drawings you would like to work with.


Wildlife Painting with Terry Smith June 21    Time: 9 am - 4 pm           Cost: $75.

Have you ever wanted to paint a wild animal? Learn how to paint realistic animal eyes, fur and feathers with nationally known Florida Artist Terry Smith. Terry will lead you from start to finish through your watercolor painting and show you valuable techniques to achieve realistic paintings. Supply list will be provided.


Miniature Painting with Terry Smith June 22     Time: 9 am - 4 pm      Cost: $75.

Terry's miniature paintings range in size from 1.25 inches to five inches and have earned him awards from the Miniature Art Society of Florida. Terry will lead you from start to finish through your painting and show you valuable techniques to achieve a perfect miniature. Supply list will be provided.


Greeting Card Workshop June 24 & 26 (Tues & Thurs)

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Cost: $40.                 Friends of Allied Arts members: $25.

Design and print your own original greeting cards and envelopes. Each person will design and print eight different cards and envelopes during this workshop. Using water based printers inks, water color paint and colored pencils in a variety of different colors and a printing press each card and envelope will be your own unique design.


Beginning Watercolor painting with Berry Smith July 12 (Saturday)

Time: 9 am - 4 pm                             Cost: $45.

Join watercolor artist, Berry Smith as he leads you through a landscape painting. Learn basic composition, color and watercolor techniques used in creating a landscape painting. Berry will break down a landscape painting into several steps and everyone will have an opportunity to watch and observe how each step proceeds. This class is designed for any skill level and Berry will work with each student. Every student will finish a painting before they leave class. A supply list will be provided.


Beginning Acrylic Painting with Curtis Bartone

July 19 & 20 (Saturday and Sunday)

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.             Cost: $75.

This course will give students an overview of basic acrylic painting materials and techniques. Opacity and transparency characteristics of various pigments, color mixing, as well as grounds and additives will be discussed. Students will then create a small still life or landscape painting as they learn under painting and glazing techniques. The main focus of the class will be on traditional painting. "Crafty" acrylic additives such as texture gels/media, metallic and iridescent paints will not be covered.
