Milledgeville ACT for Youth with Mrs. Ruby

Milledgeville Area Community Theatre for Youth (ACT) will begin the Fall Spring sessions on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 and will meet each Tuesday from 3:00 to 4:00 for ages 6 - 11, and Session II for ages 11 & up from 4:00 to 5:30 pm in the Allen’s Market Building, 101 West McIntosh Street in downtown Milledgeville.  Space is limited to only twenty-five students per session.

Registration is $10.00 for the eight-week session and is open to all youth ages 6 - 11 and session II for children 12 and up who are interested in any aspect of theatre. Milledgeville ACT director Ruby Werts said, “During the this session the students will be working towards learning about the basics of theatre through comedy and short sketches. Students will practice theatre skills through the use of games, skits, improvisations, and acting techniques. They will have the opportunity to act on stage in a final production or to work behind the scenes on set design, costuming, lighting and sound.”

Mrs. Werts is a retired elementary school teacher and has been active in local theatre, music and choral groups for many years. According to Allied Arts director Randy Cannon, “Ruby has been directing ACT and summer theatre camps for the past eight years. I have seen her take a student from barely being able to say their name on stage to captivating an audience with their stage presence. Theatre is an amazing vehicle for growth and learning and Ruby knows how to make it fun and enjoyable for everyone.”

Registrations for the Fall Session of ACT will be accepted through Friday, August 20th. The first class is Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm (Session I) and 4:00 to 5:15 pm (Session II) in the Allen’s Market Building, 101 W. McIntosh Street.
